The history of the Berlin Chamber of Industry and Commerce mirrors the history of Berlin. The author recounts the history of the Chamber, embedding it in the political, social and economic context of Berlin as a business location. Thus it is possible to trace the quintessential changes and breaks in the chequered history of the city - from the Imperial Age via the Weimar Republic and the National Socialist regime through to the post-war years, and from the 1960s and 70s through the changes of 1989-90 and re-unification to the 21st century.
