Competition Policy in Energy Markets

The present volume Competition Policy in Energy Markets goes back to a workshop held under the same title at the Brandenburg Technical University Cottbus, Germany, September19-20, 2003. The workshop was organized by the INFER working group Competition Theory and Policy, which was established in the wake of the 2002 Annual Conference of INFER entitled Current Issues in Competition Theory and Policy (see Esser / Stierle 2002).

The six papers in this volume are primarily concerned with natural gas and electricity market issues. They appear in order of their presentation, which was arranged with a view of keeping related papers closely together. Among other things, the collection of papers in this volume may encourage and broaden an exchange of ideas among academic and applied economists, which is one of the prime objectives of INFER. Leaders with an interest in joining INFER and the working group Competition Theory and Policy or with an interest in related publications may want to contact INFER at .
